From a digger's bullet collection purchased recently, here are the three types of Williams Cleaner bullets. All 3 were dug on private property near The Wilderness battlefield. They are each dropped and in superb condition. The type I cleaner has a bit of patina chipping. The Types II and III retain much of the original zinc washer.

These were intended to clean the barrel of a .58 caliber rifle musket and be fired approximately every ten rounds. Because the lacked a concave base, they were deemed less accurate. They were also largely ineffective where their intended purpose was concerned. The cleaners didn't "clean" very well.

Still, these bullets are part of the story of our American Civil War and they are essential to any collection. Here's a chance to own one of every type, all recovered from the same site.
