Handsome pre-Civil War button in very good, non-excavated condition. This button likely dates to before the Mexican-American War and so it would be appropriate in both Civil War AND Mexican War displays. The condition is good, with just a bit of verdigris or mold at the top of the button. A judicious cleaning would really bring out the beauty of this piece. Personally, I prefer to leave it as-is...fresh out of the attic.
The button is appx. 18 mm. and it has a straight, solid shank and the desirable "Orange Gilt" backmark.
