This good-looking dropped bullet has been dubbed by diggers and collectors, the "one-ring Gardner". It's a .577 Confederate Gardner, but because of the molding process with this particular run of bullets, there appears to be only one ring. Actually, you can see where the second ring would be if the bullet had been molded like most of these. I probably encounter one of these for every 50 regular .577 Gardners. This one is in really nice condition. The patina is a tiny bit uneven but that hardly detracts.
The bullet was excavated in a Confederate camp due east of the Thoroughfare Gap, Virginia battlefield. The digger was on private property with the permission of the owner.
