These various brass pieces are in nice condition and were, at one time, attached to soldiers' knapsacks. They were recovered at various spots in or near the site of the 1862 battle of Valverde, New Mexico. I am selling them here as a group but they clearly came off of different knapsacks.

Valverde is where Union forces under General Canby -- including Kit Carson and the First New Mexico Cavalry -- engaged H.H. Sibley's Confederates. The Rebs won the day but sustained pretty severe casualties themselves.

This site was also home to Fort Craig, which was occupied by U.S. forces before, during and after the Civil War.
