These look to be buckles that would be attached to saddles, haversacks or possibly some other sort of leather gear. They are in outstanding excavated condition and were recovered on private property, with permission, at the site of Fort Craig in New Mexico. This is where the Civil War battle of Valverde was fought in 1862 and where Kit Carson commanded the First New Mexico Cavalry. The site has given up U.S. military relics from the 1840's and the 1880's and every time period in between. So these could be Mexican War, Civil War or Indian War relics. All I knows is that they are just plain cool.
