Attractive World War One Auxiliary Service Medal

This little medallion celebrates the work of a dedicated American to the service of First World War veterans. It looks to be brass or some smilar metal with enamel work and fine gold-colored lettering which you can see quite clearly in the scan. The emblem is a star with a rose, probably indicating a ladies' auxiliary. Over a thousand hours of service to our returning doughboys, sailors and airmen was a major sacrifice and a wonderful patriotic expression. I hope the person who earned this medal wore it with pride.
The attachment rings remain. The back is blank and shows some wear, but nothing damaging. I don't have measuring instruments handy but I would estimate this to be a little over a half inch in diameter. It is a cute little item that can be shipped to you very inexpensively. Now is a good time to start stocking up on First World War memorabilia, since we are on the cusp of the centennial celebration. For the U.S., it will be 2017 and for most of the rest of the world, 2014.
