Here's a "cream of the crop" dug button.  It's an overcoat size Rhode Island state seal with 85% gilt, a perfectly straight shank and a correct Civil War backmark.  There are no pushes, cracks, pinholes or repairs on this beauty. The backmark is "D. Evans" and it stands out wonderfully, with dirt highlighting each letter..

 

This button was excavated on private property somewhere in the Richmond area.  I am sorry I don't have more specific information! 

Rhode Island buttons are starting to move in the direction of New Hampshires, Vermonts, Maines and Wisconsins...getting scarcer and more expensive.  I had to pay a lot to get this one so, in this instance, I really can't come off the price -- we're very close to what I already paid.  (I am often flexible on price and I never mind people asking...but I'm just being up front about this...I paid more than I ever thought I would for a Rhode Island!  But the quality is just so high here...)

 

Anyway -- I think you will agree this would make an enviable addition to an advanced Civil War collection.
