This is a beautiful, non-dog, coat-size button.  Massachusetts Militia buttons are plentiful and, while this backmark is not extremely rare, it is certainly much less common than "Scovill" or "Treble Gilt". This particular specimen was likely made by Steele & Johnson around 1850.  It bears the rmdc backmark of "Superior Quality".

The button is mint to near mint with 95% gilt or better and a perfectly straight shank. If you want to build a collection of Massachusetts buttons with all the various backmarks...or if you just need a nice, non-dug Mass. button to fill that state's spot in your collection, you'll probably not do better than this.

IF YOU WANT TO ORDER AN ITEM…

(or just ask a question about it) please email me directly at cwartifax@gmail.com

Using the “Order Information” button right below the price USUALLY works, but not always.  I don’t know why, but it could have to do with spam settings on either end. The easiest way to order or inquire about an item is simply to email me directly.  Again, my email address is cwartifax@gmail.com

Thanks!
