Hard to believe just looking at the front, but this is an excavated button. It’s even nicer in person -- getting a good scan was difficult because there was so much bright gilt! Nearly 100% gilt on the front!! The back is nice, too, with a woodsy-green patina and a very legible and Civil War period "Scovill" mark. Shank is tilted but quite solid and not flat. This would be a very hard button to improve upon and if you collection requires the finest -- here it is.

Button was metal-detected on private property, with permission, in the New Bern, North Carolina area. The verbal history accompanying this button is that it was found in a camp of the 12th New York Cavalry. That regiment was heavily engaged in the New Bern area.

IF YOU WANT TO ORDER AN ITEM…

(or just ask a question about it) please email me directly at cwartifax@gmail.com

Using the “Order Information” button right below the price USUALLY works, but not always.  I don’t know why, but it could have to do with spam settings on either end. The easiest way to order or inquire about an item is simply to email me directly.  Again, my email address is cwartifax@gmail.com

Thanks!
