This unused, original patriotic cover (envelope) dates to the early Civil War and lampoons Louis Wigfall. He was a fire-breathing Texan who served in the Confederate Congress and vigorously advocated for the preservation and expansion of the institution of slavery.

Early in the war, Wigfall was also given command of the Texas Brigade. When he joined the Senate, the brigade was handed over to the much more capable John Bell Hood.

Wigfall might best be known for being a political enemy of Sam Houston, who remained loyal to the Union.

This cover is in very good condition, front and back.
