I once intended to sell this dandy plate with an eagle plate dug at the same general location. Thought they'd make a nice set, but I only got inquiries about purchasing one or the other. So....

...I finally gave up on the "set" (it's not like they were dug in the same hole) and sold the eagle plate. This box plate remains available. I just thought I would take some better and more thorough pictures for you.

As you can see, unlike several of my other box plates, this one's not a perfect 10! I'd say it's a solid 6. It has nearly all the lead and both hooks. The hooks are rusty but solid. The lead is solid. The patina is a beautiful, deep chocolate brown. There is a small wave or two as you can see in the picture, but this is minor.

This plate was excavated on private property, with permission, at the site of the Hoover's Gap battlefield in Tennessee. Hoover's Gap is famous for several reasons, not least of which is that this is were the Spencer Rifle was first used in battle.
