Vermont has such a cool-looking button! This one is fresh from an Ohio attic and has the warm, unmolested patina so many collectors like on non-excavated buttons. Because this button has not been cleaned, there is a small area of discoloration at about two o'clock. You might be able to clean it. Personally, I like the look.

The backmark is the correct Scovill rmdc type, indicating manufacture beginning around 1850. This one very likely saw service in the war. I've priced it below what a minty specimen would bring because of the discoloration. I do have a dead-mint Vermont with the same backmark if you prefer bright, shiny gold.

Make no mistake though; this one's a gem and would enhance any state seal button collection.
