This little coin was metal detected in a Union camp near Winchester, Virginia. The digger had permission from the private property owner to excavate. The coin has a pretty patina and crisp definition.
Winchester was the scene of repeated battles between Federal and Confederate troops through most of the war. As a matter of fact, it's believed control over the town see-sawed back and forth about 72 times!
This is a great little relic from a truly historic site.
