This 15mm button was worn on the cuff or vest of a Union Infantry officer. It has a heaping helping of gilt and an almost perfectly straight shank. No backmark, but that is not uncommon and the button is considered war-date or earlier.

Non-dug. This would look great displayed with an infantry hat pin and a few other "I" buttons.
