These buttons were all dug in the Fredericksburg area on private property. The largest is almost 1.5 inches across. These are all pre-Civil War but such buttons were regularly used by soldiers on both sides, as well as by civilians.

What's really cool is that three of the buttons retain traces of gilt on the backs as well as partial backmarks.

No button display is complete without a smattering of these common, but significant flat or "coin" buttons.
