Identifying bullets of this particular style can be difficult. There are known examples like this of a .54 caliber picket bullet AND a .54 caliber Harper's Ferry slug (which looks an awful lot like a picket.)

I lean toward the former rather than the latter. Either way, this is not among the most common bullets. It's in dropped condition and almost perfect, but for one digger's nick near the nose on one side. Lovely patina! Bullet was recovered in Falmouth, Virginia on private property.
