Super-nice, non-dug M. 1858 Federal bulls-eye canteen. You can see from our ample selection of pictures that this little gem is in pretty decent condition for an old war-horse. There is the one dent but otherwise, you're looking at a real keeper. Eminently displayable and a perfect accent to a collection of Union soldier accouterments and personal effects. Were this one to have an original cloth cover and strap, the price would be considerably higher. As it is, we have priced this very reasonably.

All three iron loops remain -- on so many of these, one or two are missing. The pewter spout is solidly attached and bears the Hadden & Porter, Philadelphia imprint. Most of the mark can be read but some is faint. I have typically seen this one with the "Hadden, Booth and Porter"stamping but on this specimen, I see no evidence of "Booth". This may be a rare anomaly. Hadden, Booth and Porter made canteens for the Federal government until 1864.

Our many pictures give you a great sense of the condition of this fine piece. The one dent, at about 6:30, is barely noticeable and does not really detract from the great eye appeal of this canteen. This must have been an exceptionally well-made piece as there is not a single separation along the seam between each side of the canteen. Often, you will find slight cracks or splits. Such is not the case with this one. We have a few more pictures if you feel you need them. My sense is that when you open this package, you'll be delighted!
