This federal pattern shell retains its full sabot and Hotchkiss brass time fuse. The three flame grooves are distinct and the base is solid and slightly rounded. Medium pitting but very evenly distributed and not really distracting at all. This is a dug relic, of course.

This shell has been rendered safe and is no longer active. It has a nice preservative coating. I've taken a number of pictures and condition is pretty easy to ascertain. I'd grade this one above average.

I can supply the purchaser of this shell with the name of the gentleman who dug it. He recovered it on private property along Vaughn Road in Petersburg, Virginia.
