This baby would be a great candidate for electrolysis. It's very large as "frags" go - 1.5 inches thick, 2 inches across at its widest point and just shy of 6 inches long at its longest point. I'm not sure what kind of cannonball this is from but an artillery expert could.

I acquired a huge bucket full of frags back in the 1980's from a Maryland digger named Ed Stotler. Ed exclusively hunted private property around the Antietam and South Mountain battlefields. This particular frag is from his Antietam stash.

Holding these big hunks of iron in your hands makes you so vividly aware of the danger of battle and the bravery of those who fought.
