The perfect example! This button is non-dug, retains 100% gilt, has a straight-up shank and a very legible "D. Evans Co. Superfine" backmark. This backmark is perfectly appropriate in a Civil War collection. It was used on cuff buttons beginning in 1861 through the late 1860's. This is true of many Civil War and even pre-Civil War backmarks. The only backmark NOT appropriate in a Civil War collection is one that was used exclusively after 1865. So have no worries that this represents a "postwar" button. I've seen more than a few dug "D. Evans Co. Superfine" backmarks on cuff buttons recovered at Civil War site.

I currently have about two dozen cuff "I" buttons with this mark, an "A" or two as well -- but this is my only "C". If you want a cavalry cuff button that's a real screamer, here you go!

IF YOU WANT TO ORDER AN ITEM…

(or just ask a question about it) please email me directly at cwartifax@gmail.com

Using the “Order Information” button right below the price USUALLY works, but not always.  I don’t know why, but it could have to do with spam settings on either end. The easiest way to order or inquire about an item is simply to email me directly.  Again, my email address is cwartifax@gmail.com

Thanks!
