This unused and absolutely authentic cover is one you just don't see as often as the usual "death to traitors" and "why don't you take it" type patriotics. The North had high hopes for General Banks and he was much-feted, as his image on this envelope surely indicates. Sadly for the Union, nearly every one of Banks' combat endeavors was either a failure or a hollow, tactical victory. Still, autographs and images of the general are quite popular as they help tell the full story of the Civil War.

This cover would display wonderfully with a clip signature or a from-life CDV of General Banks. It could even be matted with an artist's portrayal of the siege of Port Hudson or the Battle of Cedar Mountain...two of the more catastrophic Banks' engagements.

This item is in very good condition with no folds, tears, repairs or stains. Just some "to-be-expected" age toning. The maker is Upham of Philadelphia and I understand that there are collectors who specialize in Upham covers.
