I love relics that come with very old tags indicating the place of recovery or where they were eyeballed. The best ones, of course, have the tags affixed to the relic itself. This tag was between two small pieces of cardboard in an envelope that was in terrible condition. (The envelope is long gone.)  And there was the bullet as well! The bullet is fired and I believe it's a Suhl, though I could bein error. It has a gray patina, either indicating recovery from wet soil or a very early battlefield pickup. Based on the pencil writing, the way Tennessee is abbreviated (for the last 40 years or so it has been "TN"), the condition of the tag itself and the ancient scotch tape used to hold the tag together, I wouldn't be surprised if this was a 1940's or early 50's find. Could be later, but I doubt it.

The tag simply reads, "Surrender House - Dover, Tenn. - Ft. Donelson Battlefield"

This was clearly recovered before it was made illegal to hunt on battlefield property. (1966, I believe...correct me if I am wrong.)

I bet you guys can find a really neat way of displaying this set. If you buy it and create something really cool, send me a pic and I'll put it up on Facebook!
