Here's a little cherry of a button. About 15/16 mm, this non-dug Cavalry button is in great shape. It has loads of gilt, a straight shank and a legible backmark. The D. Evans backmark is on buttons that were made beginning in 1860. While the same mark was used on buttons made after the Civil War, all the leading button authorities agree that it is perfectly appropriate in a Civil War button collection. I have seen and owned a lot of I, A, C and Staff buttons with this exact backmark that were excavated in unquestionable Civil War sites. In fact, I have a few in my collection.

Best of all, I have priced this beauty very reasonably for a quick sale.
