Big, overcoat-sized CG button worn by a member of the Boston City Guards. This prewar militia unit was evenutally folded into the 13th Massachusetts and other heavily-engaged regiments in the Army of the Potomac. Button is definitely prewar and carries the scarcer backmark of "Draper & Sandland Extra". While I would not call this non-dug button "minty", it is still in outstanding condition with a straight shank, lots of original gilt and even some stippling still visible on the C and G.

Noted button expert Dan Binder says in his excellent companion volume to Albert's button book that all Boston City Guard buttons are rare.
