I thought this was kinda cool. I bought a small group of relics from a friend who had purchased them from a very nice fellow dealer in Gettysburg by the name of Andy Keyser. A lot of the smaller items I have recently listed came out of that grouping. What I liked about this was that Andy, himself, dug this bullet. But it was recovered in Hagerstown, Maryland. I can't count the number of times I have driven through Hagerstown, wondering if the Rebs camped there during the Antietam, Gettysburg or Monocacy campaigns. It seems such a central hub, you would sure think they did.
Anyway, this little bullet comes with a letter signed by Andy and giving a little bit more info. It's just a standard Confederate Gardner .577 with one drop-dead perfect side and a "back side" that looks to have a period nick. This does not appear to be a digger's "shovel nick", based on patination.
I just thought it was fun to have a bullet from a spot where I'd stopped for coffee or gas hundreds of times on the way to and from all those great Virginia shows!
