This is a nice-looking, iron buttplate. It was dug on private property, with permission from the landowner, in Corinth, Mississippi. This relic has a gorgeous, rich, dark patina and only such rust or pitting so as to be able to tell this one was definitely dug from the soil. This is not a barn find or an old hunk of metal off of some "parts gun".
This butt plate could've been lost during the siege of Corinth in '62 or during the battle of Corinth in 1863. Either way, it would be really great to have a piece of history from this important site.
