Nice, cone-base Union three-ringer in .69 caliber. Some ground action but it doesn't detract. I have photographed the WORST side which, as you can see, is pretty nice.

The verbal history with this bullet is that it came from a New York collection, but was originally dug by Dean Thomas...the foremost authority on Civil War ammunition on the planet. It was supposedly dug by Dean in Gettysburg. Honestly, I don't know if this is true or just a story -- so I've priced the bullet at what it would bring if a schmuck like me dug it in Missouri or South Carolina. I just pass along what I am told and let you decide.

I will say this. I know Dean Thomas and his brother, Jim. If you don't own their books, you are really missing out. Aside from being two of the nicest people in the hobby, they are also more knowledgeable about bullets than anyone else. (I am sure I still drive them crazy when I refer to Carcanos and British Sea Service bullets...but I am getting more stubborn in my dotage.) Seriously though -- get their books. I don't have any for sale but you can order them through Thomas Publications.
