Four page, pencil letter dated January 23rd, 1944 from Camp Cooke, California. Staff Sergeant Harvey Springborn is writing to a Dora Blasher in Cleveland Heights. (I have another letter from Harvey that was written from "Somewhere in Germany" in April of 1945...so he definitely served overseas.) The letter you are looking at now is very friendly, with a little gentle teasing and some comments about Frank Sinatra and a movie the G-I's saw the night before with Betty Hutton and Eddie Bracken. Clearly, our Staff Sergeant is just friends with Dora but is just hinting around the edges about possibly wanting more. It would be interesting to research this and see if he got the girl.

 

I didn't scan every page of the letter because it's really very routine. It's in outstanding condition with no damage. The cover is in good condition with just the expected damage from having been opened. This is just a nice, representative example of the sort of letter an American non-com would send during the war. Priced VERY affordably.
