A little less than two months before the Battle of the Bulge, PFC. Rex Hamby of the 308th Engineers Battalion is freezing already...and missing his wife. This three page letter is filling with nothing except his love for his "darling", his "angel" and his "honey". Reading the letter in my comfortable office, almost 70 years later, it seems sappy and syrupy. But I am not freezing my butt off in Luxembourg, waiting for the Nazis to overrun my position. PFC. Hamby clearly adored his wife and missed her painfully. Putting myself in his shoes and thinking how I feel about my wife, I can totally relate.

The letter is dated from Luxembourg, October 20th, 1944. It is in perfect condition and is signed "Rex"...but the cover has the writer's full ID. The cover is in good condition but the back definitely shows evidence of being ripped open in haste. She must have missed her hubby as much as he missed her. The cover has a great military postal cancellation and a censor's stamp and signature. Very displayable.

Guys, if you buy this letter for your Mrs. and give it to her on a special day, she'll be touched. It's just THAT sweet and romantic, yet also a little sad. It's also a very inexpensive item compared to a battle letter. While I always prefer letters with battle or military content, this kind of letter definitely tells part of the story, too. Think of what these guys sacrificed for us!
