Sporting almost 100% gilt, this drop-dead beautiful button was excavated on private property, with permission, near the Manassas, Virginia battlefield. It is very rare to find one of these in dug condition since the vast majority of officers from "the Point" were certainly given different buttons once leaving the academy for duty in the field. I wish I knew how this one ended up in Manassas!

The button is definitely pre-Civil War, as you can tell from the rmdc backmark. There is a good, solid shank and the button has no damage whatsoever. If you collect excavated school buttons, this would be a primo example for your display case. But even if you don't get into school buttons, per se, having this one and maybe a VMI button in a display case would certainly enable you to tell yet another part of the Civil War story. This would be also great to display with any other West Point or USMA items you might have.

This button is out of my private collection.

Using the “Order Information” button right below the price USUALLY works, but not always.  I don’t know why, but it could have to do with spam settings on either end. The easiest way to order or inquire about an item is simply to email me directly.  Again, my email address is cwartifax@gmail.com

Thanks!
